HKU University Philharmonic Announces 2026 Annual Performance

Angus Lee will return to lead the HKU University Philharmonic Orchestra in its 2026 annual performance, titled Resonance and Remembrance, on 30th (Mon.) November 2026 at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium.

The programme features three classics from the twentieth-century orchestral repertoire: Dmitri Shostakovich's vibrant Festive Overture (Op. 96), followed by Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem (Op. 20). Following the intermission, Shostakovich's monumental Symphony No. 11 in G minor, "The Year 1905" (Op. 103) concludes the evening's programme. This programme promises to be the UPO’s most ambitious undertaking to date, second only to its landmark performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 in C minor “Resurrection“ in 2025.

This performance also marks a significant continuation of Lee’s work with the orchestra following the highly successful 2024 performance, which featured Leonard Bernstein’s Candide Overture and Shostakovich’s Symphony no. 5 in D minor (Op. 47). The forthcoming concert further extends the orchestra’s engagement with large-scale symphonic repertoire and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in artistic programming.
