Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong: Golden Sail Award
Angus Lee was named winner of the CASH Golden Sail Award in Best Serious Composition 2025, issued by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong.
Lee was nominated for the award with … aux cendres [study II for orchestra], commissioned by the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 2024 for its 2024/25 season subscription concert with Elim Chan (conductor) and James Ehnes (violin).
The CASH Golden Sail Awards have been established and conferred since 1996, recognising the achievements of Hongkong musicians active in both the popular and classical genres. Musicians are nominated and subsequently voted by two committees consisting respectively of 100 and 50 music industry leaders. The award ceremony was of particular symbolic significance, reuniting Lee with his first composition teacher, Ms. Poly Ng (HK delegate to the 71st International Rostrum of Composers presenting the recording of … aux cendres), who attended the ceremony on behalf of her student, Tsz-long Yu, winner of the CASH Young Composer award. Ng herself was a student of Law Wing-fai, recipient of the CASH Hall of Fame Award who previously served as the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ Head of Composition and Electronic Music.
