Lucerne Festival: Nomination as Contemporary Leader

As part of Lucerne Festival’s restructuring, Angus Lee has been nominated alongside 14 other LFA alumni as ‘Lucerne Festival Contemporary Leaders’, tasked with co-curating the upcomig inaugural edition of Lucerne Forward Festival, a 3-day festival set to take place in November, dedicated exclusively to the presentation of contemporary music.

The team of Contemporary Leaders will also form the core of the new Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, a new resident ensemble at the Lucerne Festival specialising in the performance of contemporary music. The current team of Contemporary Leaders will also lead and coach the forthcoming two editions of the Lucerne Festival Academy (2022 & 23).

Founded by legendary composer Pierre Boulez in 2003, the Lucerne Festival Academy has been for almost two decades the training ground for young musicians seeking specialised training in the interpretation of contemporary music. Typically lasting three weeks, the Academy offers young musicians opportunity to explore contemporary music in chamber, ensemble and orchestral settings, working with leading musicians in the field, including the soloists of Ensemble Intercontemporain, as well as conductors Matthias Pintscher, David Robertson and Susanna Mälkki, among others.
